Amed is familiar with its beautiful beach is
lined with traditional outrigger fishing boats. The black volcanic sandy beach
lies in Amed. If you explore the Amed beach further to the east you may see
beautiful magnificent mount Agung which is the highest peak in Bali and play in
soft sandy beach with its beautiful grey brown color.
Most recommended to visit
are the bay of Jemeluk and Lipah, however the whole Amed is actually very
attractive and beautiful. Salt production is getting less in Amed however it is
still important product in Amed. You can see open drying pans are crusted with salt
crystals.
LOCATION
Amed lies on the north-eastern of Bali, it takes about
three hours drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. 2 hours drive from Ubud. 3,5 hours drive from Nusa Dua Amed is accessed
by turning east at the village of Culik which lies on the main east coast road
from Karangasem to Singaraja. Amed beach lies about 10 kilometers long. Because of it's location on the east, magnificent of sunrise view is possible to be seen every day.
INTERESTING POINT
Amed has some good snorkelling within metres of
the shore. A reef follows the majority of the coastline and is quite close in.
Due to the limited number of visitors to the area and a growing conservation
awareness among the locals, the sea life is healthy and abundant. There is a
small wooden wreck in only 1.5 m of water off Lipah Beach, however this is not
the World War II "Japanese Wreck". David Pickels' book on diving in
Bali described this dive site for the first time in 1999 as the Lipah Bay
Wreck, and he later admitted his mistake. The Japanese shipwreck is not located
in Lipah Bay, but a few kilometres further east along the coast, in the village
of Banyuning and is great for diving and snorkelling with abundant coral and
fish life - this dive site is locally known among the dive operators as the
"Japanese Wreck" and is clearly signposted with ample car parking and
snorkel equipment rental on location. Amed is good place for diving as well.
